15 Piece Fall Capsule Wardrobe: 2020!
Is it just me, or does it feel like summer didn’t even happen? My family & I spent most of the summer staying safe-at-home, so putting together a capsule wardrobe for the Fall feels a little premature. But the calendar doesn’t lie, and slowly but surely I’ve noticed the leaves starting to turn, children going back to school (even if remotely), and pumpkins start to appear around my neighborhood.
I love the Fall. Not only do I love the fall colors, the activities that come with it, and the fact that it brings my favorite holiday (Thanksgiving), but it is also the season that brings the most interesting fashion. Fall is a time when we can take advantage of interesting layers and textures, and I personally love the rich color palettes that emerge during this season.
I usually get inspiration for my capsules from all places: people on the subway, museums, places, and things that I spot around New York City. But this year, needless to say, very few of those were available to me. So, I found myself looking at the Fall fashion trends to grab some inspiration for this capsule. This is not something I usually do, but this year I was feeling a little uninspired (probably due to the fact that I’ve not spent more than an hour at a time outside of our apartment since March).
I was surprised that this year’s Fall trends actually made it into my capsule wardrobe in two ways, but coincidentally, those trends are represented in pieces that I already owned, both of which are second-hand. Sometimes, what we need is something that we already own, but haven’t dared to wear much.
Here are the 15 pieces that made it into my Fall capsule wardrobe. Whenever possible, I tried to find you a similar option to mine:
Black T-Shirt - Mossimo Supply Co. for Target, no longer carried.
Mock-Neck Halter Top - Macy’s
Burgundy Short Sleeve Crew Neck Sweater - Gap, no longer carried.
Red Plaid Button-Down Shirt (Similar) - Lucky Brand
Gold Yellow Knit Top (Similar) - Banana Republic Factory
Curvy Roadtripper Jeans in Ashmont Wash- Madewell
Tulip Printed A-Line Orange Skirt - Modcloth
Curvy High-Rise Skinny Jeans - Madewell
Oatmeal Open Cardigan (Similar) - A New Day for Target
Plaid Moto Jacket - Second-hand
Faux Fur Cropped Coat (Similar) - Abercrombie & Fitch
Karly Ankle Booties - Flexi
Speak Up Animal Print Flats - Nine West
Unisa Black Over-The-Knee Boots - Century 21
I allowed myself to be nudged out of my comfort zone with this capsule. Some of the pieces are items that would take me a lot of courage to wear seriously (and not as part of a costume) but that I just love. I decided I wanted to include these items so I can start getting used to wearing things that are out of my comfort zone. Hopefully, little by little, I can learn to embrace the part of myself that likes pieces that grab attention, and actually wear them.
I hope this video inspires you to put together your own capsule wardrobe for the season, and please let me know in the comments what you struggle with the most when putting together your own capsule wardrobe. Thanks for watching!
