WORK / WEEKEND / DATE: Styling a Jumpsuit And Floral Maxi Skirt
I dress from a small capsule wardrobe every season, but that doesn’t mean that I love repeating outfits. If I repeat outfits too often, I find myself getting the urge to shop for more items. I have learned that the key to curbing this urge is learning to style my clothes in as many different ways as possible. That way, I can wear an item many times, but since the outfit itself is not a repeat, I don’t feel like I need more clothes.
I love a good jumpsuit. I love the way they look and how comfortable they can be to wear, but wearing jumpsuits only as they come makes me repeat the outfit often, making it more likely that I will get bored with it quickly.
In the same way, statement pieces can be a little tricky. Because they are more difficult to combine, once we find one outfit that works for a piece, we tend to gravitate towards it over and over again. Not only do we get bored of it a little too quickly, but it also significantly decreases the number of times we wear the item, keeping the cost per wear very high. I like to make the cost per wear of my items as low as possible. The more often I wear an item, the higher the return on my investment - and I love that! I hate the feeling of having wasted my money.
In this video, I wanted to show you different ways to style both a jumpsuit and a statement piece, in this case the floral maxi skirt from my summer capsule wardrobe, so that it may serve as inspiration for your own wardrobe.
When it comes to jumpsuits, adding elements to the outfit is the key to changing the look. The simplest way to do so is by adding a layer - either over or under. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of layering T-shirts underneath jumpsuits, but it is a very popular option. I prefer to layer things over them- making them look like I’m wearing a pair of pants, or adding a simple belt to enhance the waistline of the outfit. I do have to warn you, though, that doing so makes it more difficult to go to the bathroom, since you have to take off many things before you get to your underwear. Just keeping it real.
For statement pieces, I like to look at the accent colors in the garment and try to bring those out by pairing it with solid items in those colors, or dress them up with neutral colors. In this case, I paired the skirt with two neutrals (black and white), and the same pair of shoes. A few changes in accessories made the difference from a work appropriate outfit to something dressier - something that I can wear to a date, or to dinner out with my girlfriends.
I hope this video gives you some inspiration for styling the statement pieces currently in your wardrobe. As always, thank you so much for watching!
